About the Department

In consonance with the vision of the founding fathers of Dinabandhu Mahavidyalaya, to spread the light of knowledge, the department of Political Science has relentlessly been working towards achieving the same. In the same tone the department had adopted the motto of ‘Fiat Lux’ (Let there be light). The department strongly believes that knowledge is not merely academic but it envelopes the skill to navigate through the hurdles of everyday life. The department has sought to practise its mission with resoluteness and passion so that students churn out to be good citizens, and above all good human beings.

The department has consistently maintained a high degree of academic excellence; the success rate in general, has been good as reflected in the University results. Teacher-student ratio has always remained good, enabling students to interact freely with the faculty.

The faculty consist of 03 teachers on substantive post and 01 SACT.

  • Dr. Bittoo Rani (M.A.; Ph-d)
  • Dr. Partha Sarathi De (M.A.; Ph-d)
  • Bikash Chandra Mondal (M.A.; M. Phil)
  • Piyali Mukherjee (M.A.)

Student seminars, webinar (during covid-period) projects, debates are encouraged to enhance the confidence of the students. The department also engages in discussions on contemporary political issues and promoting civic engagement. Class discussion and tutorials are often encouraged to assess the confidence of students. Special attention is provided to slow learners. Value -added courses (VAC)are encouraged to widen the horizon of students. A small departmental library exists to assist students with their reference work. There has always been the provision of remedial teaching for slow learners as and when necessary. Study materials are also provided by teachers to students to ease their learning process. The department, through different pedagogical methods, seek to enrich students’ subject-specific knowledge and their critical outlook. Guardian meetings are held to appraise the parents’ of their wards progress.

Suggestions from guardians’ are always welcome and they are accommodated accordingly in the functioning of the department.

Presentation of papers by students on topics related to the course is encouraged so that students overcome their inhibition of public appearance. The students showcase their enthusiasm by regularly participating in presentation of departmental wall magazine, E-magazine, youth-parliament competition, quiz competition and other activities.

Poised in the dissemination of learning, the teachers themselves have enriched the teaching-learning process through their researches; though lack of resources and infrastructural bottlenecks do sometimes interfere with the process. However, that does not deter the department from carrying on their activities with a firm conviction ‘to strive and not to yield’.

The department is equipped with small but sufficiently rich library for students.
