About the Department

The Department of Zoology is one of the oldest departments of the college which started its journey in the year 1958. Pass course in biological sciences was started in 1970. In 1980 honours course was affiliated under University of Calcutta. Since 2008, the department is running under the affiliation of West Bengal State University. Equipped with advanced laboratories, including a combined computer and microscopy lab, the department houses a variety of models, specimens, educational charts, and a collection of permanent slides. Enhanced internet connectivity and essential software tools support the students' learning experience. Additionally, a well-stocked departmental library complements the central college library, meeting diverse academic needs. The department fosters a warm and supportive environment, with dedicated faculty members committed to students' success, leading to strong academic performance. Regular seminars and workshops enrich the learning atmosphere, while students engage in extracurricular activities like cultural programs, sports, and national and state level seminars. Many alumni have excelled in various careers, and some pursue further studies. The department also publishes the e-magazine Zoologia and a department bulletin called Zoolletin, along with annual wall magazine – Srija, created by students from time to time, showcasing their insights and accomplishments.
