About the Department

The Department of Chemistry began its journey in 1955, offering a B.Sc. General Course under the University of Calcutta. In 2003, the department introduced the B.Sc. Honours program (affiliation: G.O. No. C/4609/83-Affl dated 13.08.2003) with the University of Calcutta, starting with an intake capacity of 10 students. Under the leadership of  Dr. Girish Chandra Panda, then Head of the Department, the Chemistry department moved to its current location.

The department is committed to delivering quality education in chemistry and encourages students from the North 24 Parganas district to pursue careers in the field. Many of our students have excelled in both research and academia. Currently, the college is affiliated with West Bengal State University, Barasat, and the sanctioned student intake for the Honours program has increased to 37. Four full-time faculty members are actively involved in teaching and research.

  The department is equipped with two modern laboratories, and a well-stocked library provides Honours-level reference books for both students and faculty. Regular assessments, including class tests and a final test examination, are conducted to maintain academic standards.
