About the Department

The department of Botany was initially established in the year 1955 as a part of Biosciences Department for teaching intermediate courses. The general BSc. In Botany, initiated in the year 1969 was affiliated to University of Calcutta. The department emerged as a honours department in the year 2003 under the able guidance of experienced teachers and skilled assistants. Since 2008, the courses got affiliated to West Bengal State University, Barasat. The Bengali Department is one of the oldest departments of the college as well as one of its most prosperous. Established after the ideals of Dinabandhu Mitra and Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, the department has been a window for the young learners to the highly rich and varied would of Bengali literature. Several eminent teachers have honoured the department with their committed services down the years.
