About the Department

Department of Anthropology of Dinabandhu Mahavidyalaya is one of the enriching departments which emphasize both qualitative and quantitative studies. Undergraduate curriculum offers a broad introduction to the major sub-disciplines of anthropology, key concepts, methods, and different aspects of anthropology, as well as opportunities for fieldwork or internships. Fieldwork is often a cornerstone of anthropology, especially in Social-cultural anthropology, where ethnographic studies and participant observation are common. Biological anthropology mainly involves in lab researches or field studies related to human evolution. Archaeological anthropology often works in excavation sites or analyse tools.

Under graduate Curriculum

Under graduate curriculum for General Degree course is provided by the department since 1957. Moreover, under graduate curriculum for Honours Degree course is initiated by the department in 1986. UG CBCS curriculum was introduced in 2018-19 and UG NEP curriculum was introduced in 2023-24.

Faculty members

The department boasts a diverse and accomplished faculty members whose expertise ranges across different fields of Anthropology. Dr. Rana Saha, Dr. Mithu Bhadra, Sri Subrata Chakraborty, Dr. Piyali Das (HOD) and Sri. Subhrakanti Baul are the current faculty members of the department. Faculty members are not only leaders in their fields but are also committed to mentoring students and providing them with the skills and knowledge, they need to succeed in their academic and professional careers.
